Web Mailer Lite
To collect information from and interact with your visitors, you can set
up a 'Web forms' such as a Guestbook or order form. Web "Forms"
are Web Pages that have text areas and check boxes for Site Visitors to fill in.
Forms are a Great way to interact and communicate with customers -- 24 hours a day
-- and can be customized to meet your specific objectives.
Your web visitor goes to the Form page on your site and fills in the
blanks such as name, address, credit card information etc. When they click the submit
button to send the data, your Web server calls WebMailer to process the form data.
When the user clicks the "SUBMIT" button, the Web Form information
that the visitor submits is sent to a specified E-mail account. You specify the E-mail
account when setting up WebMailer.
The submitted information will not go anywhere unless there is a CGI Script (WebMailer)
loaded in the CGI-BIN directory of the Web Server that communicates with the Web Server
for that particular Web Site. The Web Server is the computer where the Web Site/ Web
Page resides for users around the world to see it.
WebMailer acts as the 'engine' which actually E-mails the
Form contents (information) to whomever you specify as a 'recipient' of the E-mail-
normally the webmaster. Note that Multiple people can be specified as recipients.
WebMailer Lite will take whatever data is in the Form and send it.
There is no configurability in the output of the information that is sent to the
recipient.
Web Mailer Pro
WebMailer Pro has all the features of WebMailer Lite
yet it is more robust and configurable. With Pro, you can customize the
E-mail responses using our E-mail template files. Such configurability can allow you to
send E-mails to your visitors, for example:
"Thanks for visiting our web site!" or
"Please note that we are having a 1 week special on this
product!"
In addition, WebMailer pro also lets you return a customized web page to
the user via their browser as soon as they click the "Submit" button. You can
easily customize a respone web page that the visitor sees rather than an E-mail response.
One example is that the user can be sent an "Incomplete Form
Page" explaining which required Fields they did not fill out, such as name or address
etc. which might be valuable data that you are trying to collect.
WebMailer Pro will also send attachments, so you may -
for example - send pricing information as an attachment if desired as a response to a
visitor inquiry.
Web Mailer Pro DB
WebMailer Pro DB allows you to have ODBC connectivity.
This means that you can have the data that users submit to you through your web forms sent
to any ODBC compliant data source.
To use the DB feature, you need to make sure of 2 main things:
- The computer that your web server resides on has ODBC drivers installed; AND
- The database where you want the information stored has ODBC capabilities.
To log your form submission, your database can reside anywhere - on the web
server or on a network.
Typical Use of WebMailer Pro DB:
A typical use of WebMailer Pro DB is to set up a web site with your products and
information. You also set up a Web Form ony your Web Site with typical questions
such as:
Name
Address
Telephone
E-mail
How did you find our site?
Which products are you interested in?
What is the best time to contact you?
Place WebMailer in the CGI-BIN of your Windows NT based web
server. If you don't know if you have a Windows NT based web server, ask your webmaster or
your Internet Service Provider (whoever is hosting your site).
When configuring WebMailer, specify your E-mail address as the
'Recipient' of web submissions. You also set up a Product and Pricing document (such
as a Microsoft Word file) that is automatically sent to the visitor when they submit your
Form. This is kind of like an 'austoresponder.'
The pricing E-mail that is sent to your visitor has your E-mail address as the
'From' address so that they know where to reply to. The E-mail also states your web
site address for them to revisit.
Furthermore, you set up a Microsoft Access database and link PRO DB
to it to capture all of your visitors in the database to log and categorize your visitors
for follow up marketing.
Now you are ready to start making money with your web site! All of this is
easily done with WebMailer Pro DB.
